{"id":83,"date":"2007-02-18T04:39:25","date_gmt":"2007-02-18T08:39:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/derekandevonne.com\/?p=83"},"modified":"2007-02-18T04:39:25","modified_gmt":"2007-02-18T08:39:25","slug":"erica-6-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/derekandevonne.com\/?p=83","title":{"rendered":"Erica @ 6 months!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So today is the 17th, and that marks 6 months.\u00a0\u00a0It has gone by so fast.\u00a0 We\u00a0brought her into the docs on Thurs for her shots- 3 of them.\u00a0 Same drill, but\u00a0did she ever let us know it hurt.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Like before, we have her Tylenol before, and\u00a0brought her with us to finish our errands.\u00a0 With the other shots before, she didn&#8217;t seem to have any lasting issues with them.\u00a0 We noticed she looked a bit tired more tired than usual, but still gave us big smiles every morning, and was eating fine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Same thing this morning- about 36 hours after the shots.\u00a0 I got up, changed and fed her at about 8am.\u00a0 She woke up again around 10am, and was fussing a bit&#8230;\u00a0E felt that she was on the warm side.\u00a0 When I touched her forehead, I knew it was way too hot.\u00a0 We quickly got out the thermometer and it came back 102.7!!<\/p>\n<p>As soon as she was fully awake, we could tell she was\u00a0feeling crappy- you could just hear it in her voice.\u00a0 Right away we gave her the Tylenol and gave her a cold compress.\u00a0 Within\u00a0an hour, it was back down to under 100.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Not too many things are scarier than when your kid runs an unexpected\u00a0high fever, and is crying because of it.\u00a0 This really was our first experience with\u00a0her being sick, so\u00a0e and I were\u00a0both\u00a0concerned and stressed.\u00a0 We called the BC Nurse line to get some information, and it\u00a0turns out that a &#8220;mild&#8221; fever is common with the immunizations.\u00a0 However if the fever is above 103,\u00a0go see a Doc.\u00a0 If the fever doesn&#8217;t come down with Tylenol, and hangs around the 102-103 mark for\u00a0more than\u00a04 hours, go see a Doc.\u00a0 If your kid has\u00a0convulsions, or\u00a0has trouble breathing&#8230;. well, no kidding.<\/p>\n<p>Having the fever at 102.7 was of obvious concern to us.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Later on, her\u00a0temp dropped to 99, so we figured she was ok.\u00a0 Around 10pm, we went up to get her, and it was the same thing- hot forehead, red cheeks, and a constant cry.\u00a0 We checked the temp, and it was back up to 102.7- in goes the Tylenol and out comes the cold compress.\u00a0 I have her in my lap while she is crying and I can just feel the heat coming off her forehead.\u00a0 Again, it&#8217;s a bit of a fire drill as we anxiously wait for the temp to come down.\u00a0 Thankfully, within the hour it drops to 100.9.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We made another call to the nurseline, and they advised us to keep her hydrated and keep the Tylenol going every 4 hours.<\/p>\n<p>This is her 10th immunization shot in 6 months.\u00a0 It seems like a lot of shots, and even though we understand it&#8217;s for her own good, it&#8217;s still not easy, especially when she&#8217;s in obvious discomfort.\u00a0 But we learned that a fever can happen 48 hours from the shots.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll just have to watch her closely&#8230;
